Patterns in Nature: Exploring Numeracy Through Sound and Sensory Experience

A Pilot Project to explore hands on numeracy using nature’s natural Rhythms.

Kilmurren Beach, wave measuring, beach clean, stone collection and nature potrait, workshop reflection on how the sea makes me feel, what colours it represents to me

Outcomes:

Participation / Self Growth

Reflections on participant relationships with the sea were recorded and represented across multiple mediums.

Measurements and data were recorded and filed, and then used to develop the musical piece.

A Self portrait of each participant using natural found beach materials was made.

Beach clean

Weigh in & materials collected:

Cleaned 8 1/2 kilos of the beach & uploaded results to Flossie & the Beach Cleaners database, contributing to national records

Music piece:

A final musical piece was produced, combining recorded measurements transcribed into musical notation, participant emotional and perceptual reflections as tonal influences, and audio recordings made on the day.
